The biggest hiccups in deciding to purchase a memory foam mattress are cost effectiveness and the need for a cooler sleep environment. The Amerisleep Colonial 13” Natural Memory Foam Mattress has worked to deal with both of those issues, striking a balance with a more reasonable price than its competitors as well as a design that promotes less heat absorption so you rest easier. Combine that with the other benefits of memory foam, and there is little missing from this particular mattress.
The Amerisleep Colonial 13” Natural Memory Foam Mattress consists of 3 layers to give you the perfect combination of support, all around comfort and contour, and a cooler sleep environment. Compared to other memory foam mattresses, it packs a punch for the price, which is more reasonable than the Tempur-pedic Cloud Luxe (which is considered the direct comparison bed). If that’s not incentive enough, the fact that the manufacture of the product is eco-friendly, using plant materials rather than a bunch of chemicals and you’ve got more than a bed – you have a cause.
The Amerisleep Colonial is intended to help those who suffer from poor sleep due to lack of support that leads to leg, back, hip, and neck soreness. If you do not sleep hot, you may want to consider another similar model, since this particular mattress also addresses the issue of night sweats and lack of restful sleep due to overheating.
Pros
Cons
Many people have trouble sleeping and no clue what causes their problem. Even sleeping through the night doesn’t mean you’re getting the rest you need if you wake up sore, tired, or too hot. With the Amerisleep Colonial, you’ll find that you are better rested when you rise, have fewer or no aches and pains, and never overheat during the night. It’s a great option price wise as well, not burying you in debt or leaving too big a gap in your wallet.
The Amerisleep Colonial is 13 inches thick, containing three layers that offer the perfect blend of contoured support, cushioned comfort, and cooling material that avoids overheating and helps control night sweats. Most sheets will easily fit this mattress without a great deal of overhang.
Amerisleep has provided an eco-friendly solution to upgrading your sleep environment. The mattress begins with a 7-inch “Bio-Core” layer, made for sag-free support from plant-based materials, like the other layers. In the middle, there is a 4-inch transition layer, which has been engineered in a way that it better allows for cooling during the night. It is highly breathable and releases heat while also reducing moisture.
The top 2 inches of memory foam is designed to contour to your body, giving you the comfort and support you need while you sleep. The cover is made of polyester, spandex, and Celliant, which is made of thermo reactive minerals that are shown to improve blood flow. There is also an additional fire sock within the cover that is a non-chemical flame retardant, made from rayon and silica.
Memory foam tends to sleep hot, and for people who already have issues with night sweats and overheating during the night, this can be a no-go. The Amerisleep design includes a layer inside the mattress that is manufactured specifically to negate this problem and actually help you sleep cooler than ever. It allows for heat to escape through breathable channels that are literally rolled into the material. This, coupled with the way the cover changes body heat into something similar to infrared light helps balance the level of heat in your sleep environment.
The cover keeps the mattress itself safe from stains and other damage, and it is removable, with the ability to machine wash. While it also claims it is dryer safe, I would recommend hanging dry to assure there is no damage to the material.
The selection of sizes offered for the Amerisleep Colonial leaves a bit to be desired, since the range isn’t as extensive as some other mattresses. There is no option for a standard twin or a full size mattress. However, you can order a twin XL, queen, king, California king, or split king (actually 2 twin XL models) mattress.
This mattress is pretty heavy, and the shipping weight of a twin XL is over 100 pounds, so if you have back or leg pain from the mattress you currently sleep on, be sure to use a back brace and get some help. The setup process is easy – you only have to unroll the mattress into the space where you want it – but the weight makes this difficult for some.
The Amerisleep Colonial offers a 20 year warranty, one of the best in the business. While this doesn’t cover some damages, such as improper care and procedures, it’s a pretty well rounded warranty that takes care of excess wear and tear or manufacturer deficiencies.
Mattresses worth sleeping on don’t come cheap these days, and memory foam mattresses are the worst. But typically, the Amerisleep runs about ½ - 2/3 the cost of its competition, making it far more reasonable an option. And with the sturdiness and rave reviews, as well as the 100-day money back trial period and the long warranty, I would say this bed really makes it easy to let go of the cash you have to drop on it. You won’t be looking to replace it for a very long time.
Restful sleep doesn’t have to evade you any longer. With a price you can afford reasonably and a product that helps keep you better aligned and cooler through the night without reducing the firmness of the platform, the Amerisleep Colonial 13 inch Natural Memory Foam Mattress is a complete solution to your comfortable sleeping needs
