Finding mattresses for these beds isn’t very hard, but before you just go out and buy any old mattress, it’s best that you compare which ones would work best with a platform bed. There are quite a few benefits of a platform bed that most consumers aren’t aware of and wouldn’t be unless they researched them.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of box springs because over time they tend to sag or break on the edges. With these types of beds, you’ll either have a solid foundation or slats. It’s best to check the warranty criteria of your mattress before you choose which platform bed you want. Usually, the slats should be no more than 3 or 4-inches apart if you’re using a memory foam mattress.
Ventilation
Mattresses that sit on foundations that aren’t breathable can potentially build up mold. This could be potentially dangerous if the entire mattress becomes mold infested. With platform beds, especially those that are slatted, they ventilate your mattress and reduce the exposure to moisture. The only thing you would have to worry about is if you sweat a lot at night. This is nothing that a mattress protector can’t fix for you. It’ll prevent bodily fluids from getting into the mattress and potentially voiding your warranty.
Storage Made Easy
If you’re purchasing a whole new bedroom set, platform beds with storage space inside of them virtually eliminate the need for a dresser. If you choose one that has the bookshelf headboard with it, this takes away the need for end tables, freeing up space in a smaller bedroom. These beds give you plenty of options when it comes to how many drawers you want or how large of a headboard you’re looking for.
Easy Access for Kids
These types of beds are generally low to the ground, depending on which style you choose. This makes it easy for small children to climb in bed rather than struggling to get into a bed that’s just as tall at they are. Platform beds with storage drawers are perfect for freeing up space in smaller bedrooms. You can get these with one or multiple drawers of various sizes. If you don’t need a drawers, rather a bookshelf, there are several options for this as well. Platform beds with headboards that have shelving in them make great storage areas for books, personal items, and anything else you want to keep handy while in the immediate area of your bed.
Floating
Floating beds have a very futuristic look to them. They’re simply attached at the head to the wall and the rest of the bed is supported by a center leg. You don’t see that leg and it gives the illusion that the bed is floating in the air. How cool is that?! You can use this type for a queen mattress or a king mattress, among other sizes.
Upholstered
Platform beds with fully upholstered frames give the bed a very solid look, it’s also an extremely luxurious and elegant look. The Layla is a very special mattress and will definitely work well with a platform bed. It is copper infused and double sided. By double sided, I mean that if you are sick of the way one side feels, you can flip it over for either a softer or more firm feel, depending on which side you started out on. Not many mattresses are made like this, but it’s a great feature in my opinion.
Since this mattress is copper infused, it has a lot of very healthy benefits for you while you’re sleeping. Copper has been used for many years as an alternative medicine for joint pain relief, better blood circulation, and regulating body temperature. It has been used since the age of the Ancient Egyptians, so why not trust the copper properties?
One other feature of the Layla that I really like is the thermo-gel cover. A lot of companies are more concerned with the cooling gel inside of the mattress. The Layla has a gel infused cover to keep you cool throughout the night since it’s the closest thing to your body. This may possibly be the best kind of mattress for a platform bed based on all of its features.

Leesa Mattress

This means that you can use the entire bed to sleep on rather than getting close to the edge and realizing you may fall off and having to scoot back over towards the middle.
The Saatva also has an organic cotton cover and euro pillow top for extra padding and cushioning. Rather than being sewn to the top of the bed and losing shape or shifting, this particular top is inserted underneath the outer covering. This gives the bed a cleaner and neater look. The Verdict
Picking the best kind of mattress for a platform bed isn’t the easiest thing to do since they’re all pretty great options. Honestly, considering all of the features, benefits, pros, cons, and prices, I would have to highly recommend the Layla as the best mattress for a platform bed.
I chose this one because it’s flippable, works with both slatted frames and solid, it’s infused with copper, and the cons weren’t really too bad. Sure, it may be hard to flip, but if you have somebody to help, it shouldn’t be too bad. The other great thing about the Layla is that it has a nice, low profile. This will make it easier for small children or adults who may have pain, get in and out of bed a lot easier. All features point to a solid choice here.
