Not all mattress protectors are created equal, and when you’re trying to protect the investment you made in an expensive, quality mattress, you want the assurance of the same quality in your protective cover. The Hannah Kay Premium Mattress Protector offers high quality, waterproof material with the comfort that allows you a good night’s rest, as well as a warranty that assures you peace of mind. We’ve taken a look and given a brief overview of the best qualities of the Hannah Kay mattress protector, as well as pointing out any flaws we found.
The Hannah Kay Premium Mattress Protector is a five-sided product that goes on your mattress like a very tight fitted sheet, keeping it sealed against many of the threats that can reduce the quality of or ruin the mattress completely. This also keeps it secure so that you don’t experience a lot of material shifting during the night. Unlike some of the thin, plastic mattress protectors and even those that only use a thin polyester top to guard against wrinkling and crinkling, the Hannah Kay mattress protector sleeps quietly so your rest isn’t interrupted by odd sounds as you roll over at night.
If you’re looking for a sealed mattress protector that zips all the way around the mattress (especially if you want to protect against the threat of things like bed bugs), you may want to consider other options, as this is not a sealed protector. Also, if you’re looking for additional padding for a firm mattress, you should look for mattress toppers rather than a protector (sometimes, the topper includes a protector). However, if you are strictly looking for a cool, dependable protector for your mattress, you should definitely consider the Hannah Kay premium mattress protector.
Pros
Cons
Like mattresses, you have to shop carefully for mattress protectors, since these are the products that assure your mattress will remain clean and effective for its lifetime. This is not only for your own health but also to preserve the integrity of the mattress and keep the warranty intact. The Hannah Kay Premium Mattress Protector offers a number of features that make it a great choice for your use. With waterproof, hypoallergenic materials and a tight fit over your mattress, you can sleep comfortably and have peace of mind that you won’t suffer from allergens, overheating, or other disasters that can ruin a mattress.
While the mattress protector consists of two layers, it remains thin enough that you’ll never notice its presence on your mattress. Its thin construction allows your sleep to remain exactly as it was when you slept on just the mattress, with the added comfort that you’ll have a cool night’s sleep. Also, though the thin profile mirrors that of cheap plastic mattress protectors, this product is much quieter than those noisy, low quality covers. I didn’t hear anything during the night, no sound waking me from a peaceful slumber.
The top of the Hannah Kay product is a fine, 100% cotton construction that keeps it soft and comfortable for sleep, also aiding in the silence of the mattress cover while shifting in your sleep. Beneath the cotton is a waterproof polyurethane membrane that protects against sweat, spills, and allergens. There is no plastic, so you won’t experience the crinkling sounds that awake you from a deep sleep during the night, and there is no chemical smell that comes with this product. The construction is sturdy, assuring that it stays on your mattress and doesn’t risk tearing or thinning over time.
Within the polyurethane layer that is waterproof, there are divets (microscopic holes) that allow for breathability. I couldn’t imagine this type of construction working – keeping the waterproof seal AND allowing for temperature control. However, both aspects of the product pass the test with flying colors. Your body heat won’t become trapped by the mattress cover, which means you won’t find that you sleep hotter than before. The air flow through these divets means that the cool air gets in and the heat escapes (and vice versa during the cold months of the year) to better regulate your sleep temperature. This also helps if you currently experience night sweats or overheating.
Like many higher end mattress protectors (that don’t use plastic), the Hannah Kay Premium Mattress Protector is completely machine washable. You may dry it, but we recommend you hang to dry in order to assure the preserved durability and long life of the product (drying on a high heat setting can damage the protector significantly, and everyone has made the mistake of forgetting to change the settings on a dryer).
Unfortunately, the options for sizes are not widely varied. The Hannah Kay Premium Mattress Protector is only available in the most standard of sizes. However, it can still be used with extended XL mattresses, if centered properly, as the deep pockets of the wraparound sides will still fit a deep mattress (made to fit the appropriate sized bed with a mattress up to 22” thick).
Note that, though you can make it fit the longer mattresses, the ends won’t be protected against spills, since the waterproof layer is only the length of a standard twin or full mattress. You should not try to fit the king sized protector to a California king mattress, as this will not properly and securely assure complete waterproofing. The product is available in:
The mattress protector is lightweight, so it’s easy to unpack and set up on your mattress. The queen sized product weighs about 2 pounds, so there should be no issues with lifting or moving. Note that, if you do not have a thick mattress, there may be excess material, which could cause shifting at times. Try to tuck it as tight as possible to avoid this issue; this should be a simple task with the light weight of the protector.
The “Good Night Rest” Warranty provided by Hannah Kay for the premium mattress protector covers the product for 10 years. Per the company, if you are dissatisfied with the product at any time (less than 100% satisfied), you can return it for 100% money back guarantee with ‘no questions asked’. I obviously haven’t had a chance to test this, since my mattress protector was utterly amazing, but the few reviews I read from customers who have had to cash in on the warranty were pleased with the service (and overall, there hasn’t been a real need to do so, since the product seems to be high quality).
You’d be hard pressed to find a better deal on a quality mattress protector. The cost is beyond reasonable, and should fit within everyone’s budget. If that’s not a satisfactory price, you may want to stick with the loud (and not as reliable) plastic covers, as these are the only protectors that might cost less.
With the comfort of knowing that your mattress is protected against spills, sweat, allergens, dander, mites, dust, and other miscreant things that can affect your sleep and void the warranty on your mattress, the Hannah Kay Premium Mattress Protector really works magic in providing you with peace of mind and a protected sleep environment. It’s not the only good mattress protector out there, and it doesn’t come in a wide variety of sizes.
However, when it comes to basic coverage and comfort, you really can’t beat the value. And if you’d like to check out the Hannah for yourself, click here!
