Having a protector for your bed should be about more than just making sure nothing voids the warranty on your mattress (such as spills, burns, tears, and stains). In fact, a good mattress protector will assist with ensuring your sleep environment is healthy and clean by blocking the collection of allergens in your mattress that lead to other nasty elements, like dust mites. The Luna mattress protector does this, improving air quality and blocking allergens from becoming trapped in the mattress. It also assists with airflow and keeps the temperature of your sleep space controlled.
The Luna Protector is a five-sided product that goes on your mattress like a very tight fitted sheet, sealing it against many of the threats that can reduce mattress quality or ruin it completely. This also helps with air quality overall in your sleep environment. With construction that doesn’t compromise the way your mattress feels and sleeps while also adding air flow capability and the assurance of protection, this product hits the mark on all aspects. It even improves your sleep environment with additional health related benefits.
If you suffer from eczema, allergies, psoriasis, or asthma, you should consider using the Luna protector, as it’s proven to reduce symptoms of these ailments. Also, if you sleep hot, suffer from night sweats, or have a bed with cooling technology, the Luna protector is a good option to retain a breathable, cooler sleep space. If you are looking for a mattress protector that seals completely around all six sides of your mattress, however, this product may not satisfy you, as it resembles a fitted sheet more than an encasement for your mattress.
Pros
Cons
Between protecting your investment in an expensive, high quality mattress and assuring you have a safe, healthy sleep environment, a proper protector for your bed can be essential. The Luna mattress protector gets the job done without costing a fortune – and helps keep you from having to spend a fortune on a new mattress! Take a look at some of the best features this product has to offer.
The Luna protector offers a thin layer of protection for your mattress that doesn’t change the feel of your mattress while being thick enough to assure that it gets the job done. Over time, it does seem to thin with washing, so pay careful attention to care instructions to avoid damage or compromising its endurance.
Also, unlike some other high quality protectors, this one is not soundless. You may find that, if you are a light sleeper or someone who shifts position often, you are likely to be awakened at some point during the night by a sound similar to the crinkle of a plastic mattress cover.
The top layer of the bed protector that you sleep on is a cozy natural soft cotton terry material. It is cool and breathable, and it assists in reducing the amount of noise made by the protector (though not enough for my liking). The back is coated with a thin layer of hypoallergenic, 100% waterproof material that keeps your bed safe. We tested this with a spill test that lasted for 8 hours, checking back over and over and finding nothing having leaked through the waterproof material.
The cotton top absorbs moisture and pulls it away from your body, so that even if you have night sweats, you can sleep dry and comfortably with the moisture being spread away from you to quickly and thoroughly dry. The waterproof material keeps the moisture, as well as health hazards like allergens, dust mites, and various fluids from seeping into your mattress.
While there is no particular ‘technology’ incorporated into the design of the Luna mattress protector, it does assist in keeping your sleep environment cooler with breathable material. I found that, unlike some false claims from other manufacturers,
Luna doesn’t misrepresent the capability of its mattress protector to maintain better temperature control. In addition, with the way it handles sweat and other moisture, it additionally reduces heat and humidity. It pulls moisture away from the body and does not trap heat. That also means mattresses that do use cooling technology can still work their magic without the protector interfering.
The Luna bed protector is completely machine washable. You can also tumble dry on low heat to get it back in action faster. However, because washing can actually cause thinning, it is recommended that you wash the protector on a quarterly basis (approximately every three months). Also, because it’s possible that the dryer may still get too warm and that you may forget to change the setting, we recommend that you wash in the morning and hang dry. It should be ready to put back on your mattress before bedtime.
First, note that the sides have an elastic band that automatically draws excess material under the mattress, reducing the possibility of shifting during the night and assuring that it fits any mattress thickness. I’ve even read reviews from individuals with thin mattresses, who have no issues with excess material causing the protector to shift during the night. In addition, the Luna mattress protector comes in a variety of sizes that make it work for almost any application. The product is available in:
The Luna mattress protector, while not sealed against things like bed bugs, does test to be 100% waterproof. It does not allow moisture like sweat to seep through to the mattress, and if you spill something, you are fully protected. There are pockets that hold the liquid in place, not allowing it to run down the sides and possibly get under the bottom. And even if you don’t catch the problem and clean it up right away, the Luna product can be laundered and come out without a stain, your mattress still completely dry after hours of the liquid sitting trapped in the protector.
The product offers a 10 year warranty – which I haven’t found matched by very many manufacturers out there – that protects you against manufacturer defects and issues that result from such. Should there be excess wear and tear despite proper care and handling, you may also be able to use the warranty. However, any tears, wear, stains, or other destruction caused by mishandling are not covered under the warranty.
The cost of a bed protector that really does the job without harassing you with noise all night may seem a bit steep, but with the Luna product, it’s worth the price. This is definitely not the most expensive mattress protector available, but it’s also not the cheapest. In my opinion, you get a pretty good bang for your buck with this particular solution. It’s well worth it when you consider the quality!
The Luna mattress protector does more than protect your investment and keep your mattress warranty intact. It offers a safer, cooler sleep environment that is conducive to good health. By reducing the collection of dead skin, dust, mites, sweat, and other allergens, it keeps the air quality in your bedroom higher and assists in retaining a sound sleep space.
The fact that the waterproof material doesn’t inhibit the ability of this particular mattress cover to breathe and maintain a cool environment is of additional benefit, as is the fact that it literally draws moisture away from your body to keep you dryer and cooler at night. You’ll find you sleep better and get more rest in the process for a better day.
